This was such an great book!   I am not sure precisely what genre it fits into but it is somewhat futuristic.  I can’t wait to read the next book in the series.  This is about a society in which everyone becomes “pretty” when they turn 16.  Before they turn pretty they are known as “uglies” and are kept away from the pretty people.  The uglies are mischievious and smart and perfectly ordinary looking.  By this societies standards though, they are quite ugly.  The main characte is Tally, she is about to turn 16 and can’t wait because her friend Peris has already become pretty.  Before she turns she meets Shay.  Shay doesn’t want to turn pretty and runs away.  Adventure ensues.  This book is a really interesting social commentary.  I actually read it because I was talking to Becky Harris about body image and how many young girls are getting plastic surgery really young.  Becky reccommended it and I finished it that night.  Anyone would enjoy this book, it’s fun to read but is also thought provoking.  It’s not preachy at all but has the capacity to make young adults question their own ideas of “pretty”.  Loved it
